Deficiency Symptom , Growth Characteristics , and Nutrient Uptake of ¢¥ Nyoho ¢¥ Strawberry Affected by Controlled Magnesium Concentrations in Fertilizer Solution

Hemphill, D D
Abstract
This research was conducted to induce magnesium deficiency symptom and to determine critical concentrations of soil and plant when ¢¥Nyoho¢¥ strawberry reveal Mg deficiency. Symptoms of Mg deficiency occurred first on older leaves. The chlorosis began at the leaf tips and progressed to the interveinal area. The veins remained green, but the interveinal area became yellow. Dry weight revealed the highest value of 9.2 g per plant in 1.5 mM treatment with 0.28% of tissue Mg content. The treatment of 2.0 mM had the highest fresh weight of 26.1 g per plant which was very close to 26.0 g of 1.5 mM treatment. The Mg concentrations based on plant sap of whole above-ground plant part in 1.5 and 2.0 mM treatments were 411 and 492 §·¡¤§¸^(-1), respectively. Results indicated that it seems to be necessary to keep Mg concentration of plant sap more than 400 §·¡¤§¸^(-1) to secure the maximum crop growth.
